Good Music Is Hard to Find
For over 30 years, the Linden Woodwind Quintet has explored and performed the repertoire for woodwind quintet. While the combination of flute, oboe, clarinet, horn and bassoon is rich and satisfying, most of the literature was not. The members of the Quintet decided that they wanted more – so they began transcribing music for their instrumentation. The result is a treasure trove of over 150 classical and popular works, expertly arranged to enhance the unique sound of a woodwind quintet. Now you can purchase these pieces for your group.
About The Linden Woodwind Quintet
The Linden Woodwind Quintet was founded in 1974 by five students at the Manhattan School of Music. They played during summer evenings on the corner of 56th Street and Fifth Avenue. Passersby would stop to listen, appreciate what they heard and hire the group to play for concerts, weddings and other special occasions. The musicians soon became frustrated by the limited scope of satisfying and enjoyable pieces that existed for woodwind quintet.
In order to expand their repertoire, the group’s founding members decided to have the Quintet musicians arrange pieces that had been written for other combinations of instruments and voices. As people hired the group to play at a wedding or party, they often requested that a favorite piece be played at their event. One of the members would then transcribe the work especially for the occasion.
Over time, these transcriptions became part of the Quintet’s extensive repertoire of music ranging from the Renaissance period through the 20th century.
